Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a form of medical treatment focused on the joints, muscles, and nerves of the body. Physiotherapy is treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient's mobility, function, and well-being.

Customized Treatment Plan

Whether you suffer from an injury, are recovering after surgery or have been in a motor vehicle accident, our practitioners will tailor a customized treatment plan to your needs. As the Danforth's physiotherapy clinic, we also perform other treatment methods in conjunction with physiotherapy.

Patient Engagement

During the course of your physiotherapy, depending on your treatment plan, we will ask you to do exercise at home between visits, to increase strength, stretch tight areas and promote healing. While also answering any questions you may have along the way.

Collaborative Approach

We use a collaborative approach to our treatment, meaning that we work along side you every step of the way. Our main goal is to empower you and support you in your journey towards getting back to a healthy, pain-free life.

What To Expect At Your Appointment

Come Prepared - Before attending your first physiotherapy appointment, we suggest wearing comfortable clothing that will easily allow you to expose the targeted area(s) during the examination. Also be sure to bring any necessary medical documentation (including prescription details) with you.

Health Questionnaire - Upon arrival, you will be asked to fill out a health questionnaire. This will inform your physiotherapist about your medical history, associated conditions and any other relevant details, ensuring they can best understand your individual needs.

Objective Evaluation - Your physiotherapist will perform a series of tests — including an evaluation of your posture, walking, strength, mobility and more. They will also examine any issues that may be involved with your condition and/or situation

Review Your Plan - After your physiotherapist has successfully evaluated your condition and taken into account all other relevant factors, they will review your condition, highlight any affected structures, discuss the details of your customized treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.

What Conditions Does Physiotherapy Treat?

This includes issues concerning the muscles, bones, joints, nerves, tendons and ligaments. Given the wide range of different conditions that this term may entail, many clients are often unsure whether physiotherapy is the right treatment for their individual case.

What Are the Benefits of Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy provides relief to people of all ages suffering from different ailments, injuries or disorders. With the help of our physiotherapy, you can lead a more active and healthy life. Better-known benefits of physiotherapy include:

Relief from pain
- Aches and pain in the body could be caused by a number of reasons. This includes everything from an ankle injury while playing basketball, to chronic lower back pain from sitting for long hours at work. If the pain is impacting your daily routine and activities, it definitely needs immediate medical attention.

Improved mobility and balance
- People recovering from injuries from an accident, surgery or conditions (such as a stroke) may become disoriented and find it difficult to get back on their feet again. In these cases, rehabilitation physiotherapy can provide great help. It not only helps the body regain lost muscle strength and improves coordination, but it also helps patients move around more safely.

Prevention of/recovery from surgery
- While surgery may be unavoidable in some cases, physiotherapy may reduce the need for it. A combination of exercises and therapies can eliminate pain, heal injured tissues and facilitate pain-free mobility.

Manage age-related issues
- As we age, many of us tend to develop musculoskeletal complications (such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis). To manage these daily aches and pain, physiotherapy can be helpful.

Avoid dependency on medicines
- While painkillers may temporarily relieve pain, the effect they can have on kidneys and liver may prove fatal over the long term. That’s why it’s recommended to opt for physiotherapy to deal with chronic pain.

Who Can Benefit From Physiotherapy?

People of all ages can benefit from physiotherapy, be it a child suffering from cerebral palsy or an elderly person suffering from osteoporosis. If you or your loved one experiences any kind of ailment, we can set you on the road to recovery and help you maintain your overall physical well-being.
